Vandy's newest recruit is 5'5

Gaston Miller - RB - Riverdale HS in Murphreesboro, TN.

Listed at 5-5, 150 pounds. And we all know how generous those listings can be. Vandy told him he would be their "offensive specialist." Return man/3rd down back. I guess at that size he'll be hard to find... er...

im just hoping no one takes his head off...

Gators get two more recruits

Dustin Doe - LB - Hamilton County High School in Jasper Fl.

Corey Hobbs - OL/DL - Oviedo High School.

Good story on Hobbs by SunshinePreps w/ video...

So far so good for Urban Meyer. Helluva job recruiting so far. Ron Zook who?

Matt Walsh deciding to stay in NBA draft

Matt Walsh, who would be a senior this year, is bypassing that to remain in the NBA draft. Now I can only come to three conclusions.

1) He is getting some bad advice

2) He really doesnt like college

3) He thinks another year would drop his stock and this is the best chance to get drafted

I dont see how he will fit in the NBA. He cant consistently beat people off the dribble in college. He cant defend two guards in college and he doesnt have the size to stop small forwards in the NBA. The only chance I think he will have is to provide some energy off the bench and shoot an occasional three. But he isnt a very consistent shooter. If I were an NBA team, I certaintly wouldnt use a draft pick on a bench player who is a streaky shooter.

Which leads me to believe that scouts have told him that he is a fringe 1st rounder and that another year in college would only give the NBA another year to dissect his game. So he should take what he can get now before his stock has a chance to drop... ala Brett Nelson.

Scout.com's 2005 South Hot List

http://recruiting.scout.com/3/2006_fb_south_100.html
Couple of local players rated really high...

5) Jamar Hornsby - WR - Sandalwood(Jax, Fl)
7) Tim Tebow - QB - Nease(Ponte Vedra, Fl)

Right now the Gators have a pretty good shot for both of them. Believe Hornsby has the gators as his favorite. And both of Tebow's parents are gators. Only problem they may have is that they got a commitment from another highly rated QB and Tebow may not want the competition.

Vandy currently has a commit in the top 100. Adam Smotherman from Smyrna, TN.

Leftwich is in the top 10 in jersey sales

Leftwich is #7 in jersey sales in the NFL. Only behind Moss, Vick, Brady, McNabb, Roethlisberger, and Tomlinson.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2079693

I have to admit I find this pretty shocking. Jacksonville is a small market and a lot of folks in town dont even like Leftwich. So it cant be the rabid hometown support for Byron that is pushing him into the top 10. Could it be that he is a black QB? Probably not since thats not quite the story that it was 10 years ago. Maybe he is still living off his legend in Marshall where his Olineman carried him down the field? Doubt it since many NFL fans dont give a crap about what happens in college. And even if they did I cant imagine Byron growing a legion of fans because of that. I really dont have the slightest clue as to why he is so popular around the country.
